- Contact Hillary and let her know what specifics you have.
- Ideas are discussed and a design is created.
- Hillary will draw out a sketch, as needed, based on the ideas discussed.
- Upon your approval of the idea or sketch and price, a 50% deposit will be requested. Hillary then begins the painting process.
- The painting process includes cutting and stretching white silk, drawing the design, and using resists and dyes to create the design.
- When the painting is complete, the painted silk is steamed, a two-hour process which sets the dyes permanently into the silk fabric.
- The piece is then cleaned to remove the resist material and any excess dyes, leaving only the soft colorful painted silk.
- The painted silk is hemmed, and patches and atarah (collar piece), if done separately, are sewn on.
- Tsitsit are tied in the four corners.
You now are the owner of a unique piece of art, an original silk tallit created by Hillary Miller. May you wear it in the best of health!
